Eames Upholstered Task Chair
$1,245.00
A cradle of comfort — Charles and Ray Eames believed that “design is a method of action,” and they continually updated their work to suit changing needs and solve new problems. In 1948, they entered a prototype chair in MoMA’s International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design, which led to the launch of their Molded Shell dining chair collection in 1950. Three years later, they expanded it to include the Eames Task Chair (1953), first mounted on a four-star base but now available on a five-star base for markedly better stability. Providing just the right amount of give, this height-adjustable, swiveling chair has a deep seat pocket and waterfall seat edge to reduce pressure on backs of thighs. “The chair that Charles and Ray were designing,” explains grandson Eames Demetrios, “is the chair that’s made tomorrow.” This is the authentic Eames Task Chair by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A.

Charles and Ray Eames

Design is for living. That maxim shaped a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and '50s. It was a revolution of form, an exciting visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start – and two of its prime movers were Charles and Ray Eames. This husband-and-wife team's unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Sleek and simple. Beautifully functional.
