Seatmate — The compact Pelican Table exemplifies the Danish modernism for which Finn Juhl was celebrated. It’s designed with a convenient tray-like surface and rounded legs.

Details

Designed by prolific Danish master Finn Juhl, the Pelican Table has a mysterious origin. No drawings of the table exist – only a photograph of the original, displayed with two of Juhl’s iconic Pelican Chairs, from the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1940. Nearly 75 years later, the table appeared at an auction in Paris, where it could be measured and assessed. Now reproduced by House of Finn Juhl according to the original, the Pelican Table is crafted of solid walnut. Made in Denmark.

Finn Juhl

When you look at the graceful shapes and sensual curves of Finn Juhl’s work, you may be shocked to realize that he designed these pieces 60 to 70 years ago. A pioneering force in his own country, Finn Juhl is also credited, along with fellow Danes Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, Borge Mogensen and Poul Kjaerholm, with introducing Danish modern to midcentury America.
